Threads profile specs
Threads doesn't have its own handle — it uses your Instagram username. What you can set independently is the bio, which allows up to 500 characters.
The numbers
| Field | Limit |
|---|---|
| Handle / username | 30 characters |
| Display name | 30 characters |
| Bio | 500 characters |

Set it up
- 1Open Threads and sign in with your Instagram account
- 2Confirm the handle — it mirrors your Instagram username
- 3Edit profile: paste the bio (up to 500 characters)
- 4Add the link and set who can reply
Where it usually goes wrong
- Expecting to pick a different handle than Instagram; you can't
- Copying the 150-character Instagram bio when Threads allows 500
- Not linking the Instagram account first
Skip the guesswork
SetMySocial writes your Threads bio to exactly 500 characters, checks whether the username is free, and exports the picture at the right size.
Build my Threads profileThreads changes these limits without announcing it. If a number here is wrong, the checked date tells you how old it is.
